No True Freedom

Image
It stands to reason that we are never truly free. We may experience some freedoms, however as a civilization we can never do what ever we want to do. There is no real way this could ever work. We all have different desires different ideas about what feels right and what feels wrong. Laws are made to keep us in check and to stop us from acting out our urges to kill, steal or destroy each other just because we feel we are free to do so. No you are not free to kill, you are not free to take what does not belong to you nor are you free to destroy what another has earned. Maybe one day we will realize that civilizations more than 3000 years before us already crossed these same paths and a written order was made called “The Word”. Perhaps you have at least heard about it, some call it a Bible. Any way it gives us written of what should be tolerated and what should not.  Pick it up you will be surprised what you learn about freedom.

The Gray's

By Hannah L. Jeffers  Do you ever wake up and wonder what in the world is really going on? This is a complex question asked by so many during these difficult times. The holidays seemingly bring a more microscopic look at the world in which we live. It seems the days past so fast and before you know it another Christmas is knocking at your door. But this year for so many of us it feels unwanted and unwelcoming. Perhaps it is because our children are all grown and gone. Or maybe it is because we have loss our spouse and our parents have long since passed on. Or it could be reduced to the amount of gray now showing in our hairline. We sit and remember when our grays earned respect and those around us appreciated the wisdom and advice our longevity provided. It seems those days are forever gone. In this day it seems our gray hair signifies nothing, and in fact our youth make an extra effort to remind us that we know nothing about this day and time. Unfortunately, they could be right. How

Call a Truce with Holiday Blues

By Hannah Jeffers      It is that time of year once again and although many of us are feeling blessed to see another holiday season some of us are depressed by the notion of spending it alone. This is not just the season of cheer. The holidays season is also a season of suicide and death. It is a time when people are drawn into the fantasy that everything should be beautiful and bright and so often it is the exact opposite. Older people sit alone in silence hoping that their children will visit or at least invite them over. Younger families get overwhelmed with worrying about how they can afford all the glamour and gifts demanded for the holiday show. Many people find themselves going into debt. For many families holiday festivities turn into chaos and crime. Marriages suffer and relationships crumble during this season more than any other time of the year. However, there is hope. Yes, there are ways to create joy and holiday beauty and not ruin your finances. There are so many creat

Welcome to Truce Magazine Memphis

Can we agree that we disagree? Welcome to Truce Magazine a format where we can agree that our opinions are not the end of any discussion. We are all flawed individuals who have created our realities- based on our experiences, beliefs and backgrounds. In our own minds, our opinions make for a perfectly good arguments of righteousness, and we present them as law. Nevertheless, they are not always what they seem, and insisting that others agree with us has led our communities and our world into separatism.   Political disagreements have raged wars, while racial stance cause our properties to decline as city and county lines are being redefined to keep people of certain nationalities out. Families are torn apart over unresolved arguments that scar generations and leave children without support systems needed for role models. Nothing seems to be good in this world because the media spreads the worst of it daily while the elderly rush home to watch and grow increasingly afraid to leave the
